To improve transmission longevity and to preserve the factory warranty, please follow these guidelines when purchasing, installing, and running a new transmission:
- If you ever had water or metal debris in the oil previously, or your old transmission failed, you should replace your oil cooler, lines, and fittings. If not, and your oil cooler is in good condition and not too old, you should have it flushed and inspected.
- If your damper plate is old or worn, has any visible cracks or damage, or has loose springs (for spring type dampers), replace it. If you’re changing from a Volvo MS-series transmission to a ZF, you’ll also need to switch from the original spring type to a Centa bushing type damper.
- Change your transmission fluid regularly following your factory owner’s manual guidelines. Never go more than a year between oil changes.
- On transmissions with an oil filter, replace it as needed following your factory owner’s manual guidelines.
